On Dec. 1, the varsity hockey team went against the Lafayete Lancers and the game concluded with a 3-3 draw.
For the first goal of the game, senior Dylan Knop scored in the first period, following him was junior Carter Warren in the second period, then lastly freshman Blake Warren in the third period.
Carter said his teammate, sophomore Wyatt Schneider, gave him a good pass which allowed for him to score.
“It felt great that I had a great lineman to put the puck on my stick and lead me to scoring,” Carter said.
The score was tied for most of the game. Near the end, the Falcons were able to pull ahead, but a goal from the Lancers brought the score to 3-3 in the last minute. Warren said the team could have ended the game stronger but was still happy with the outcome.
“We could’ve played some better defense to close out the game but it felt pretty good to tie,” Warren said.
On the contrary, freshman Trenton Stark was not satisfied with the results of the game and said there was plenty of room for improvement.
“[Tying the game was] pretty upsetting. We could’ve played better and moved the puck more and played more as a team,” Stark said.
Head coach Justin Maroon said the Lancers were known to get in the players’ heads while playing to try and distract the team but they worked to stay focused.
“We stayed disciplined as a whole for the most part. Lafayette is known to get under their opponents’ skin and we didn’t allow it,” Maroon said.
In practice, the team worked on specific tactics to target Lafayette’s weak spots. Stark said that implementing those skills during the game helped them succeed.
“We back check a lot and went to net when we had the chance,” Stark said.
The Falcons went on to play the Vianney Griffins on Dec. 2 where they lost 4-1, and the Parkway West Longhorns on Dec. 8 resulting in a 1-0 loss.
