The Silver Falcon marching band traveled to Fort Zumwalt North on Oct. 12 where they performed in the River City Showcase.
The band earned first place in the Gold Division and received recognition for Outstanding Visuals and Outstanding General Effect. After the preliminary round, the band performed one more time for finals and earned an overall 5th place out of 12 teams.
Director Jeremy Loui said the band had a successful run at the competition placing high and taking home two extra trophies.
“ We had two great shows, placing first in our class and winning awards for Outstanding Visual Performance and Outstanding General Effect. In finals we placed really well, still finishing ahead of the bands in our class,” Loui said.
Drum major sophomore Ava Proctor said the band prepared their performance a week prior, working at night and on the morning of competition.
“We had night practices, football games which are like mini practices, and we had rehearsal in the morning before competition to go over anything we needed to before competition,” Proctor said.
Although the band placed high and had a successful performance at competition, senior Finnley Free, who is in color guard, said they were unprepared for the heat but good spirits kept them in check.
“I think the prelims run was a little rough. We need to get used to weather changes because it was pretty hot and we weren’t used to it but I think overall the team spirit that the guard had was really good and we were all there for each other.” Free said.
