The boys soccer team fell to the Vianney Griffins in the second round of the Class 3 District 2 tournament on Nov. 5 with a score of 1-2, ending their season with a record of 8-15. The game came down to a penalty kick-off after 30 minutes of overtime.
Head Coach Thomas Wade said that even though this season has been very difficult, he’s happy with how much the team has grown and learned.
“It was a tough season. We played a very very tough schedule, and we had a very young team, so it was a good chance for learning, for these young guys, what it takes to be successful at this level, so ultimately it was a successful year,” Wade said.
Junior Jack Steele said that despite the stress of overtime, he enjoyed playing his last game of the season.
“[Overtime is] a lot of pressure, but the game was fun. It was one our best games of the season,” Steele said.
Wade said that despite the loss, he was impressed with the team’s performance against such a difficult team.
“I was also just so proud of the boys for how well they played and how hard they battled all game. They were the better team for most of the game against one of the top ranked teams in the state. We told them that we just wanted them to continue to play with that energy and confidence through to the end and they did,” Wade said.
