Valentine’s Day is known for its controversy between lovers and haters of the holiday, and whether you should spend it with friends or a loved one. A poll posted on the Talon Instagram proved there are more lovers of the holiday with results of 78% love and 22% hate out of 454 students who voted.
Senior Avery Hoffman said the holiday is a way to make your affection for others known, even with platonic relationships.
“Valentine’s Day is a way to show love and care even if you don’t have a significant other and it’s just good for the soul to have a holiday to recognize love,” Hoffman said.
On the contrary, senior Lily Trueman said the people you love should feel that every day, not just once a year.
“I think it’s just a pointless holiday because if you love people it doesn’t need a holiday, it should just be a daily thing and I think the colors pink and red are dumb,” Trueman said.
For those in a relationship, this holiday is a big way to prove your love by gifts and affection. Senior Logan Tanner said he loves spending time with his girlfriend, senior Claire Doyle, and plans to make the holiday special.
“It’s a good day to give gifts to your partner and I got Claire a lot of gifts I think she’ll enjoy,” Tanner said.
Galentines is also a version of Valentine’s where women spend the holiday with their close friends. FACs teacher Allie Tunnicliff said she has no plans with a significant other but is still excited to spend it with her gals.
“I’m doing Galentine’s and with one group of my friends we’re going to brunch and to a painting class,” Tunnicliff said.
