Everyone wants to be appreciated for the hard work they do every day, Margaret Sullivan is one of the few that has been.
Margaret Sullivan was appreciated for all of her hard work at Summit as a librarian. She was named Librarian of the Year by the Greater St. Louis School Librarians Association. Sullivan knew she had been nominated for the award, but states that she had no idea she would win.
“The president and the membership secretary of the Greater St. Louis School Librarians Association surprised me by coming to Summit to present me with the award,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan says that she felt very flattered to receive this award and kept thinking about all of the people who had helped her get to where she was today.
“I thought about all the people who have helped me and inspired me in my career. No one is successful without support from others,” Sullivan said.
Being a librarian for Rockwood Summit, she loves the team that she found in her three coworkers and said they inspire her to be her best every single day.
“I’ve found the best colleagues ever in Dr. Baum, Ms. Hausman, and Mrs. Humphrey,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan was also inspired by her dad. Because she started out with such positive, strong, role models, Sullivan was able to become the librarian she is today.
“My dad, who was a middle school principal for most of his career, encouraged me to be active in professional organizations because educators can learn so much from their colleagues,” Sullivan said.
When asked what the award meant to her personally, Sullivan said that it was such an honor to be recognized out of all of the other librarians in St. Louis, so it’s more of an honor to both be nominated and receive this award.
“It’s quite an honor to be recognized by my peers. There are so many amazing school librarians in the Greater St. Louis area,” Sullivan said.
Sullivan was one of 11 librarians who were considered for this award and feels both honored and very flattered to receive it on Jan. 28. She said that she values the support she has at Summit.
“The Rockwood librarians are a constant source of inspiration; they inspire me to be a better librarian every day,” Sullivan said.
