The girl’s varsity soccer team fell to Ladue high school on March 27 ending with a score of 0-2. Senior Lily Trueman felt that the team had given their all effort-wise but it was a hard game.
“My performance was pretty good. I feel like I would have fought a bit harder but I played my best,” Trueman said. Sophomore Maddeson Chonech agreed with Trueman, she said that she played well against the Rams.
“Personally I think my performance was great, I definitely had a better performance in the second half rather than the first,” Chonech said.
Trueman said thatLadue was a tough and difficult team to get through, however the girls still showed great sportsmanship.
“Ladue was a very rough and hands on team. It was a very aggressive game with a lot of anger going through the field. But in the end we shook hands and they showed good sportsmanship,” Trueman said.
Trueman said that being a senior means a lot to her because she always looked up to the seniors as an underclassman.
“I love being a senior on the team because I always remember looking up to the seniors and being able to be one now feels great. And there’s definitely seniority so I don’t have to clean up the balls and penny’s anymore,” Trueman said.
Trueman said that her coaches and teammates have given her the motivation to work hard. I will miss playing [soccer] and most of all the friends I’ve made along the way. Plus Coach Mike (Vader) Gauvain, he’s the reason I continue to play and give every game my all,” Trueman said.
To prepare for the game, Chonech said that the team focused on position specific exercises prior to the game. “I specifically worked on my shooting before the game since I play forward. It definitely wasn’t the outcome we were looking for, but our work rate and effort as a team was high,” Chonech said.
They also trained according to how different schools usually play, Truman said. .
“The main thing I focused on before the game was getting my feet moving and stretching because I knew it was going to be a fast pace and technical game. I wasn’t very happy with the outcome of the game. I think we got out played and we could’ve given more effort as a team,” Trueman said.
After the game, Chonech wants to train specifically on shooting to improve in that aspect.
“I am for sure looking to improve my shooting after missing both my shots in the game.” Chonech said.
Truman said that even though the game didn’t result in the Falcon’s favor, the team learned a lot from the game.
“As a team I feel like once we get used to playing with each other, the game will flow a lot better because we have a lot of new players and we’re slowly starting to click. Our team gave it our all. I definitely think we would have fought a little harder in the end but overall everyone played their part,” Trueman said.
