The boys tennis team beat Whitfield High School on April 17 at The Nest. As of April 26, the Falcons are 2-11 on the season.
Sophomore Brendan Corkery won his singles and doubles matches against the Warriors. Getting the first tick in the win column is a great feeling, Corkery said.
“[Winning the match] felt great. I felt like what we worked for, we really got,” Corkery said.
Though matches are individual in tennis, scores are compiled for the team score, which makes it more difficult to pick up wins, junior Hiroki Fingerhut said.

“[Winning has] been a struggle throughout the season. I would have some games that I would do [well], but then some people [wouldn’t perform as well],” Fingerhut said.
Before the Whitfield match, the boys had ten matches under their belts, which meant that a lot of improvement was shown in each player. Corkery said that a lot of success with tennis comes from the right mentality.
“Tennis is 90 percent mental so if you keep your head in the game, you can keep your whole body in the game,” Corkery said.
Similarly, Fingerhut said that the Falcons’ mentality has improved throughout the course of the season.
“I think mentally [we improved]. Even through our [losses], we just picked it right back up and were ready for playing another game the next day and just not being hard on ourselves on each loss,” Fingerhut said.
