On May 10, the Junior Varsity Boys’ lacrosse team competed in an all-day tournament against multiple teams.
Head coach Nick Jennewein made sure the whole team was prepared with the work they had put in all season. At the end of the tournament, the team played Francis Howell and lost 4-2.
“Unfortunately we weren’t at full strength for this tournament as it was on the same day as senior graduation, and several of our players had siblings graduating,” Jennewein said.
Prior to Francis Howell, the Falcons played many other teams utilizing the skills they had been working on since the beginning of the season.
“We played Webster Groves and won 8-1, then Edwardsville and won 4-2, after that we played Ladue and won 6-2,” Jennewein said.
Fort Zumwalt was a hard team to beat, with some of their strongest players on the field that day. Sophomore Beckett Hoffman agreed that Fort Zumwalt one of the Falcons’ tougher opponents. .
“Fort Zumwalt specifically had a pretty large team, probably some of their varsity playing down, and did really well that day,” Hoffman said.
Due to the team not having their full roster, it led to an easier win for Francis Howell. However, it was still a great game and learning experiences for both the players and coaches Hoffman said.
“As a whole we were very happy with our performance, but I am sure if we were running our full squad we would’ve won the whole thing,” Hoffman said.
This year, the team had all new coaches and staff, but they are hopeful in the coming years that the team will evolve into something great, Jennewein said.
”We are a completely new coaching staff, and we look forward to seeing these boys grow into great lacrosse players. Our years ahead look strong, and we would love to encourage anyone to come try lacrosse next year, ” Jennewein said.
