The reigning 4A State Champions, the Silver Stars dance team welcomes back a junior varsity (JV) team. Due to shortage of numbers, the Silver Stars dance team did not have a JV team during the 2024-2025 season. With the massive increase in dance team interest this season, the Silver Stars have a group of 12 girls on JV. Dancers found out that they had made the team through various social media platforms on April 26. Grade levels on this team range from 9th to 10th grade.
Co-team leader freshman Raaga Tota said that the transition from Junior Silver Stars at Rockwood South Middle School is very incomparable to JV Silver Stars.
“It was definitely different because there [are] a lot of things we do on Silver Stars that we didn’t do on Junior Silver Stars,” Tota said.
JV Silver Stars perform at sporting events such as JV football, basketball, and soccer games. JV Silver Stars make appearances during halftime at all of these events as well as at pep rallies. As for Junior Silver Stars, they only performed at halftime during football games, as well as competing at Lindbergh Invitational in the middle school division. The JV team also participates in other invitational competitions that take place in the winter months.
This will be JV head coach Rachel Rea’s third season with JV, and her fifth season as a Silver Star’s coach. As a coach, Rea has set high goals for this team throughout the season.
“Some goals I have set for this team [are] really challenging their difficulty [as a team]. By the end of the season, we are hoping to have a triple pirouette as a team and a team turn set,” Rea said.
An average practice for the Silver Stars is two times a week after school and one 6:00 A.M. practice on Thursdays. Team leader of communications.
Rea said that JV did a great job at their first UDA camp as a team.
“They did a really awesome job [at UDA camp], it can be really scary as a team of all rookies [and] knowing what to expect,” Rea said.
