Summit hosted a swim meet on Oct. 6 against Christian Brothers College High School (CBC), and the Falcons lost 119-66. Team captain, senior Gabe Kramer said it’s hard for the team to score high because there is a big difference between skill levels of the swimmers. In addition they do not have an opportunity to get points the way other teams can due to the teams small size.
“I think overall we just have a big gap between really good swimmers and kinda mediocre swimmers. Also, our team isn’t big so we can’t get as many points as some of the bigger teams. We’re kinda behind. I think as a team we are doing the best we can. Especially with the opponents [we swim against], usually they have some better swimmers and we just don’t have a good amount [of people] in the middle [of skill ranges],” Kramer said.
Junior Caleb Hardee said the team needs to focus on improving their mindset. He said the team needs to go into all meets trying to do the best they can as individuals.
“I don’t think there’s much to improve on. I think [we need] a mindset of winning. And I think we’re focused too much on how we do in the meets instead of [how we do as] individuals. So we need to focus on how our individual times are [changing],” Hardee said.
Personally, Kramer said he was happy with how he did and the points he scored for the team against the Cadets.“I did pretty [well at the meet] because I got best in some events I hadn’t swam in a while. I scored some high places and I scored some good points for our team. So I feel like I did pretty good,” Kramer said.
Hardee said he didn’t do his best but he had a good mindset going into the meet.
“[I didn’t do] great, because [I] had just come back from an overnight trip. But it was really about [my] mindset, I tried as hard as I could and I didn’t do my best and I didn’t do my best time, but it is what it is,” Hardee said.
