At the 2025 Gans Creek Classic meet on Sept. 26, the girls varsity cross country team finished in 25th place for the Varsity Girls A-Elite division race.

At Gans Creek, every varsity athlete set a new personal record (PR) in the same event, for the first time in several years. Some running their seasonal PR, but a majority finishing with an all-time PR. Third on her team and 157th overall, sophomore Abigail James managed to pass over 37 athletes during her race, which was the team’s focus for this event. She finished with a time of 21:04.70, breaking her all-time PR by 54 seconds. Finding out she reached her PR, she got emotional after working hard to achieve it.
“I was really excited about it because I was really hoping for that PR sooner than later. I know that I was doing better, I was a couple weeks ahead of where I was at this point last year. I couldn’t believe it,” James said.
Placing 210th in the event, senior Claire Worley ran her personal all-time best finishing at 22:06.80. The team being able to collectively PR in one race, made her hopeful about what else the team could accomplish this season.
“I feel like [the team] could be really great this year, and that there’s bigger and better things to come,” Worley said.
