Gallery: Fire alarms set off, school day interrupted

During second lunch on Nov. 17, the fire alarms went off.

A sprinkler was set off in the wrestling room, and as of 12:51pm on Nov. 17, administration was unable to comment on why the sprinkler was set off. Students and staff were evacuated, and two fire trucks, along with three fire station vehicles responded to the scene. Firefighter Michael Long said that because this was a call to a school, there were a few extra precautions taken. “[For a school,] we generally have more trucks on the call. For something like this with a commercial call, we’ll send just the closest unit first just to check it out and see what’s going on. Check the panel, make sure there’s no active fire, currently since there isn’t a fire, it’s just a sprinkler head, the units here are going to take care of the scene, get everything cleaned up, and like you can see clear the scene and you guys can go back in. Outside of that, for today’s call, it was quick and easy so once you get it, it’s just simple trucks that come in,” Long said. Class of 2027 principal Tommy Pottieger said that because of the fire, the school day will look different on Nov. 17. “We’re going to have to move third lunch back into AcLab so everyone gets a chance to eat. Luckily second lunch was almost done, so the kids in second lunch will wrap that up and be able to go back to class,” Pottieger said.
