Over the 2025-2026 winter break, a wide range of new films came to theaters. Many of these films saw overwhelming success at the box offices with some even winning Critics Choice awards. Along with these awards, many have also secured Golden Globe nominations and awards with Timothée Chalamet winning a Golden Globe for Best Actor for his role in “Marty Supreme.” Whether people want to watch an action packed comedy or a heartfelt love story, they are sure to find a great film released over this winter break.

Ping pong success
Starring Timothée Chalamet and Gwyneth Paltrow, “Marty Supreme” follows the story of a shoe salesman in 1950s New York City who dreams of becoming a world-renowned table tennis player. Although his wish is to become famous, his ways of achieving greatness are often far from admirable. Chalamet’s performance has won him the Critics Choice Award for Best Actor along with securing him a Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy. The overall film was also nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes.

A new clan
Following the success of the first two “Avatar” films, “Avatar: Fire and Ash” continues on with the story of Jake Sully's family as they encounter a new and aggressive Na’vi tribe called the Ash People. This new tribe possesses the ability to wield fire and aren’t afraid to get violent with other Na’vi tribes on Pandora. With its use of CGI, the film was awarded the Critics Choice Award for Best Visual Effects. The film was also nominated for Cinematic and Box Office Achievement at the Golden Globes.
The Housemaid

A house of mystery
Based on the best selling novel written by Freida McFadden, “The Housemaid” is a psychological thriller that follows Millie (Sydney Sweeney) as she takes a new job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family. Prior to her employment, she spent time in jail due to her rocky past. While living in the Winchester’s house, Millie discovers and becomes entangled in the many dark secrets that hide behind locked doors that may even be worse than hers.

A heartfelt tribute
Starring Hugh Jackman and Kate Hudson, “Song Sung Blue” follows Claire and Mike Sardina through their creation of a Neil Diamond tribute band called “Lighting & Thunder.” Based on a real couple in Milwaukee, the film shows their love story along with all of the struggles that come along with performing. Throughout the film, Jackman and Hudson perform many of Neil Diamond's hits including “Sweet Caroline” and “I’m a Believer.”

Filmmaking in the Amazon
Experiencing midlife crises, best friends Griff (Paul Rudd) and Doug (Jack Black) carry out their childhood dream of recreating the 90’s movie “Anaconda.” They gather up the rest of their crew and head deep into the Amazon Rainforest with a snake handler and a real snake. As they continue filming with their low budget, they begin to be hunted by an actual blood thirsty giant anaconda. Starring Jack Black and Paul Rudd, this film blends action and comedy as the two friends come face to face with actual danger.
