Over the course of one month, world-famous rapper Nicki Minaj has disappointed millions of fans with her constant outspoken support of the Trump Administration. Losing well over four million instagram followers from Nov. to Dec., Minaj’s fanbase, nicknamed “Barbz,” have expressed their frustration with the rapper in great detail via social media platforms such as TikTok, X, and Instagram. On Jan. 28, Minaj attended an event in support of President Trump, and made statements showing her devoted admiration for the president.

“Well I don’t know what to say, but I will say that I am probably the president’s number one fan. And that’s not going to change. And the hate or what people have to say does not affect me at all. It actually motives me to support him more,” Minaj said.
Immediately after the event, Minaj took to X to post her gratitude and excitement for being gifted the Gold Card.
“Residency? Residency? The cope is coping. Finalizing that citizenship paperwork as we speak as per MY wonderful, gr
acious, charming President. Gold Trump card free of charge,” Minaj wrote.
The idea that Minaj had of the card being a visa, however, was false. A White House official, who spoke to The New York Times anonymously, affirmed that the card given to Minaj was just a ‘memento,’ not a proper visa documentation. Concurrently, another official who spoke to the Times said that Minaj has been a legal immigrant for about 20 years. Meaning that she has been eligible to apply for a US citizenship without the need of the Gold Card.
A month prior, Minaj was a guest at the Turning Point USA’s (TPUSA) AmericaFest conference. TPUSA’s CEO Erika Kirk invited Minaj to speak about religion, politics, and more. When asked by Kirk why she had begun speaking about politics, Minaj said that she felt tired of being intimidated by outside opinions.
“I just got tired of being pushed around. Sometimes you just get tired of it, and then you realize wait a minute; I have something inside of me that’s stronger than what’s out there. So, I’m not going to back down anymore. I’m not going to back down ever again,” Minaj said.
One of the more notable sentiments from Minaj’s time on the stage, were her comments towards the male youth of America.
“Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president. And you have amazing role models like the assassin JD Vance, our vice president,” Minaj said.
Adding on to that statement, Minaj repeatedly insisted that boys will act the way that they do, and their actions are perfectly acceptable.
“Boys be boys, it’s ok. There’s nothing wrong with being a boy. How powerful is that? How profound is that? Boys will be boys, and there’s nothing wrong with that,” Minaj said.
Be that as it may, Barbz continuously think back to the time when Nicki showed up for her LGBTQ+ fans. The Barbz have coined this time “Old Nicki.” In 2011, Minaj responded to a paparazzi asking her what it would take to get a gay rapper, she responded that she already is one.
“I am a gay rapper. You got one,” Minaj said.
In 2010, in an interview with MTV news, Minaj uplifted her gay fans who were facing torment and persecution, by telling them to keep their heads up.
“I would encourage my gay fans to be fighters and to be brave. People face difficulties, no matter who you are. I faced difficulties with a lot of things. I face opposition every day, but I didn’t kill myself and now, thank God, I’m here. So I want my life to be a testimony to my fans and my gay fans,” Minaj said.
This change in tone from Minaj has left her supporters confused, hurt, and angered. Many celebrities that were previously fans of Minaj have not held back their feelings towards her most recent actions. At the Grammys, actor and singer Billy Porter was asked about his feelings about Minaj’s actions. To which, he explicitly called her out, showing great disdain.
“F— her. F— her. When people show you who they really are, believe them the first time. F— her and all of them,” Porter said.
