New shows to watch in the new year

His & Hers

Small town mystery

Taking place in the small town of Dahlonega outside of Atlanta, GA, “His & Hers” follows detective Jack Harper (Jon Bernthal) and news reporter Anna Andrews (Tessa Thompson) as they both work on a murder case of a wealthy woman. Towards the beginning, it is revealed that Jack and Anna are married, and as the show goes on, the murder case grows and both begin to suspect that the other might be involved. Throughout the case, the reason why they grew apart is revealed and many other secrets between the two and within the town come to light. This show explores many serious themes like grief and revenge and ends with a twist that no one saw coming.

Half-blood heroes

Based on the second book of the novel series “Percy Jackson and the Olympians,” the show continues on with the story of Percy Jackson (Walker Scobell) as he navigates through another year at Camp Half Blood. Once he arrives at his second year at camp he realizes that the atmosphere has changed and that the conflict between the Greek gods has escalated. Throughout this season, Percy faces off against Luke Castellan (Charlie Bushnell), as Luke continues his quest to revive the titan Kronos to overthrow the Olympian gods and destroy Mount Olympus. Along with the returning characters, many new characters join the story like cyclops Tyson (Daniel Diemer) and daughter of Zeus Thalia Grace (Tamara Smart) who set up new challenges for Percy to face in the upcoming seasons.

Bridgerton

London society masquerade

Following the marriages of his brothers Anthony and Colin, Benedict Bridgerton (Luke Thompson) faces pressure from his mother to stop messing around and settle down. While attending his mothers masquerade ball, he becomes captivated by a girl that is not like all the other young debutantes. Later it is revealed that the young lady was actually a maid named Sophie (Yerin Ha) getting a taste of society under the cover of a mask before returning back to her place below the upper class. This new season of Bridgerton explores the many divides between the lower and upper class while showing what is accepted by society and what is not. The first four episodes of the new season were released on Jan. 29 and the second part is set to release on Feb. 26.
