For the third year in a row, the varsity girls soccer team claimed the win at the annual Battle of the Bones competition on April 11 against the varsity baseball team at Saucey’s Pizzeria. Junior Maddeson Chonech enjoys the tradition because of the time she gets to spend with her teammates.
“My favorite part is just laughing with everybody as [we’re] trying to shove chicken wings in [our] mouth,” Chonech said.
In regards to the win, Chonech claims the system is rigged in favor of the baseball team, and it’s amazing the girls could win three years in a row.
“[Winning] feels pretty cool because they usually try to rig it, so winning three years in a row, [and] breaking the rigging system is pretty awesome,” Chonech said.
Senior baseball player Oren Miller said he doesn’t feel bad about the loss because he believes the girls didn’t play fairly.
“[The girls] cheated, so I’m walking away feeling good from that. Madde Chonech started shoving wings down her shirt and [another girl] was throwing wings onto our side of the table,” Miller said.
Chonech denies this accusation and claims that the baseball team was upset they did not win the competition.
“That never happened. They’re just mad that they lost,” Chonech said.
In addition, Miller said that they weren’t mad about the loss despite the competitive atmosphere.
“We were all just having fun. It gets a little competitive, but I don’t think we were too mad about [the loss] knowing they cheated,” Miller said.
