The Falcons football season ended on Nov. 7 with Summit losing to the Eureka Wildcats 21-3. This game ended the team’s run in districts.
Senior defensive back Clayton Brunner explains how the last game of his high school football career was a difficult match up, but it showcased the team’s sportsmanship and character.
“[The game] was pretty rough. We couldn’t stop the run on defense and we couldn’t get anything going on offense. But I think there was a special moment of us trying not to give up. And we played until the last whistle. We didn’t get in fights or anything. We had a lot of character,” Brunner said.
Moreover, junior cornerback Quincy Rainey discussed how throughout the game, players were keeping a positive attitude.
“[Even though we were losing,] we were all still hyping each other up, getting excited and doing good stuff,” Rainey said.
To make sure everyone keeps their character and good attitudes, Brunner made sure to motivate the team through different tactics.
“Body language is the best [way to motivate the team], and motivational speaking. Talking to your teammates, telling them what went wrong and doing the best we can,” Brunner said.
Though there were a lot of positive emotions, there were some negative ones due to the outcome of the game, but Rainey said since he is only a junior, it makes the loss easier.
“It was upsetting, but I’m a junior so I’ve got one more year, so I’m looking forward to that,” Rainey said.
