Staff members win Cornerstone awards

The Cornerstone award is given to support staff throughout the Rockwood School District, which includes staff such as bus drivers, custodians, nurses, and other employees that help out around the school. This year, two Summit staff members received the award. Those personnel were Ronda Skinner, the Class of 2026 assistant principal and Nancy Nethington, a classroom math assistant. Skinner explained how she was shocked by the way everyone treated her when she received the award. “It was crazy to believe they were all there to celebrate me. I was surprised, honored, [and] humbled by the recognition, and the group's kind, supportive words,” Skinner said. Nethington said that she expected something was happening, but she was still taken aback. “I had a couple of people tell me congratulations before it happened, so I had an inkling that something was going on, but I was still surprised when so many people showed up, especially my family members,” Nethington said. Almost every day, the staff works with other personnel and students, which Skinner said motivates her. “My passion for this work stems from the daily interactions with students and staff. They challenge me to grow, inspire me with their dedication and remind me why I love what I do,” Skinner said.
