On Jan. 9, Summit girls basketball played against Ladue Horton Watkins High School. The Falcons were defeated by the Rams with a final score of 55-31. The game challenged the team against a difficult opponent, and sophomore Ellie Gash said there were a lot of adjustments the team had to make during the game to counter Ladue’s versatility.
“[Ladue is] definitely very fast, they’ll push you in transition, and they will make you work hard. We did eventually come together on a defense that we thought would work, and we did get a couple stops, and I feel like that brought our faith up,” Gash said.
Approaching the middle of their season, game experience has given the team feedback on what skills need improving. Freshman Kenzie Taylor states that this defeat has been no different, giving the team a lot to focus on during future practices.
“We could work on our defense and [how we] run our offensive plays. [This game] definitely shows how we need to work at practice, [and] that if we work hard at practice that will transfer to our games,” Taylor said.
Despite the loss, sophomore Tessa Boulay said she saw how her team was able to collaborate and persevere, showing their progress this season.
“Our strength was probably staying together as a team, even when we were down by a lot, and overall, not losing our passion,” Boulay said.
