Cheer nationals took place in Orlando on Jan. 30. The team placed 12th in the preliminary round of the Universal Cheer Association (UCA) National Championships, the first out of the three rounds in the UCA competition. The team was scored a 79.7 with no deductions, missing the semifinal round by .4 points.
Senior Trinity Buetow said her favorite memory is feeling accomplished with her team.
“My favorite memory from cheer is getting off the mat after nationals and being so proud of myself and my team,” Buetow said.
Similarly, junior Olivia Rudick said her favorite memory was the moment after their routine where she got to celebrate with her team.
“My favorite memory was hugging my teammates after our performance and seeing a smile on our coaches’ faces,” Rudick said.

Rudick also mentioned the mental challenge of competing in front of a large crowd.
“The most challenging part of nationals was getting over the mental part of performing in front of hundreds of people,” Rudick said.
The preparation for nationals was very time consuming said Buetow.
“My team prepared for the competition by dedicating all our time to extra practices and long days,” Buetow said.
